Martin Lawrence Partners With The Pistons To Release Limited Merchandise

At the end of last year, the Detroit Pistons made a major splash by hiring Sean "Big Sean" Anderson to become the team's creative director. Now, the franchise is partnering with one of Big Sean's favorite comedians, Martin Lawrence. This week, the team announced that it would work with Lawrence to create limited-edition merchandise inspired by his iconic television show, Martin.

“Detroit has always shown me so much love and always shows up for me,” Lawrence said.

“From stand-up tours to fans on the street Detroit has felt like home. It’s an honor to be part of something that means so much to me to this many years later.”

The limited-edition merchandise would include jerseys, hats, shorts and more. Each product will feature lettering the matches the show's logo along with iconic quotes from the series.

“With the city of Detroit as the show’s backdrop, Martin became must-watch TV in the 90’s,” Detroit Pistons Chief Business Officer Mike Zavodsky said.

“Martin’s love for the Pistons in the show translated into passion for the team – the fact that he has a ring from the 2004 team is proof of that. We’re thrilled to partner with Martin to introduce a merchandise line that pays homage to both Martin and the show’s Detroit roots.”

The limited-edition merchandise comes just in time for the end of the 2020-2021 regular season. Despite finishing the season with the worst record in the Eastern Conference, rookies Killian Hayes and Saddiq Bey have shown promise. The Pistons will end their season with back-to-back home games against the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat.

Detroit will unveil its special collaboration on Friday, May 14.
