A Rhode Island state senator is catching heat online after she posted a viral video twerking upside down in a bikini. Tiara Mack, the first openly gay woman to be elected as a Senator in the Ocean State, is getting attention from all corners of the Internet for a TikTok showing her twerking on the beach.

"A promised senator thirst trap at Block Island," the 28-year-old Democrat captioned the clip with a devil emoji. "Vote Senator Mack!" she says at the end of the video. As of Wednesday morning (July 6), the TikTok has over 69,000 views and was posted to her campaign account, @mackdistrict6.

Another TikTok shows Mack asking, "How many nip slips am I allowed to get on the 4th of July?" before a friend replies off-camera, "You already have three."

The backlash to her spicy video was quick. Many social media users expressed their outrage on both TikTok and Twitter.

"I'm not a conservative and I'm disappointed," a Twitter user says. "Where do we draw the line on the behavior of public figures? I like when WE have a standard of decorum that we want OUR people to rise to. To be UNCOMMON to be admired! This ain't it."

Another Twitter user wrote: "Black women image is so over-sexualized idk how we can recover from a twerking senator."

"We all need our representatives to be someone we are proud to support," one person says. "Both parties. Deeply saddened that this woman is a senator in any state."

"Set the race back YEARS with this," a TikTok user commented.

The Democrat made a quick tweet in response to the criticism, writing: "Damn. Twerking upside down really makes the conservative, unhinged internet accounts pop off on a Monday."

Several people were also in Mack's corner. One person says, "Y’all really need to remember politicians are still people, they aren’t forced to behave like you want, they’re forced to do their job. Move along lol."

"Be more concerned about her stance on public policy issues, not her dance moves. Remove the stick out of your butt!" another user reacts.

"Why they hating, that's crazy," someone wrote. "What's so offensive about twerking. I'm really curious. If you can do ur job, then you can do your job lol."
