The three Virginia football players who were shot and killed last month have been granted posthumous degrees, NBC News reports.

D’Sean Perry, Devin Chandler, and Lavel Davis Jr. died on November 13 after a student opened fire on a bus returning to campus from a field trip in Washington D.C. Two other students were injured in the UVa shooting and later released from the hospital.

The suspected shooter, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr, was arrested on murder charges for their deaths.

At each of the player's hometown funerals, school officials gave family members a printed copy of their posthumous degrees, which were approved by UVa's College of Arts & Sciences departments and the Office of the Provost.

Davis, a wide receiver, majored in African American and African studies and was set to graduate in December. Chandler was a second-year student who majored in American studies and was also a wide receiver for the Virginia Cavaliers. Perry, a fourth-year student, double majored in studio art and African American and African studies and played linebacker for the football team.

On Monday (December 5), Carla Williams, the university's Director of Athletics, said in a statement: “It was a great honor to be a part of presenting these diplomas to the families of Devin, Lavel, and D’Sean.”
