The son of a Connecticut woman who was found dismembered and stored in over a dozen trash bags is facing charges.

On Monday (April 21), Theodore Lloyd was arrested and charged with attempted arson in connection with the death of his 70-year-old mother, Tina, whose body parts were found scattered across 14 to 16 trash bags in her home, per PEOPLE.

Authorities initially showed up at Tina's West Haven home for a welfare check on March 24 after her son told police that she had been missing for two months. Upon searching the home, police found the trash bags in an upstairs bedroom and later identified the decomposing body as Tina.

Police said they also discovered indications that someone had tried to burn the home down. Cutting utensils, an electric chainsaw, and plastic bags with evidence were other items found in the home. Surveillance footage from a local Walmart and Home Depot showed Theodore allegedly leaving with the recovered items.

“I have never seen anything like this in my 22 years in the police department,” Sgt. Scott Allard of the West Haven Police Department said in a statement.

Tina's death remains under investigation. Theodore is set to face more charges as authorities believe he acted alone. He is currently being held on a $1 million bond with a court date set for May 27.
