Whoopi Goldberg called out Secretary of State Marco Rubio during an episode of The View on Wednesday (May 6) over the administration’s mixed messaging on the ongoing war in Iran and the financial burden facing Americans.

“[They] still can’t quite figure out what is going on, they don’t know how to get the message out, they don’t know where we are, why we’re there, when it’s going to be over — it’s just crazy,” Goldberg said, adding that Rubio and other top officials “don’t even know what the other one is saying.”

President Donald Trump announced “Project Freedom” the day before, an operation designed to “guide” vessels through the Strait of Hormuz during the temporary ceasefire, according to The Hill

Two U.S. commercial ships successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz after being fired upon by six Iranian boats, per the outlet.

Rubio declared that the mission known as Operation Epic Fury was over and that the focus had shifted to the entire Project Freedom, which he called a “purely defensive operation.”

“This is not an offensive operation. This is a defensive operation. And what that means is very simple, there’s no shooting unless we’re shot at first,” Rubio said. “We’re not attacking them.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also claimed Tuesday that “the ceasefire is not over,” and that some of the ships assigned to Project Freedom were also assigned to the paused Operation Epic Fury mission.

However, Trump announced on Wednesday via Truth Social that Project Freedom itself was paused as the U.S. works with Iran towards a “Complete and Final Agreement.” Iran also denied that the U.S. had taken out six of its Iranian boats that fired upon the commercial ships, according to NBC.

Goldberg then went on to discuss how Americans who had “finally got themselves up above water” financially were now dealing with the economic fallout of the war, which had mainly caused gas prices to rise nationwide.

“This is on y’all! This is yours!” Goldberg said. “You can’t keep going, ‘bye, now,’ this is yours!”

The estimated average price of gas as of Thursday (May 7) is $4.55/gallon, up almost 30 cents from a week prior, according to AAA.
